The Career and Technical Personnel Preparation Center offers undergraduate curricula that prepare in-service teachers for career and technical education. This program leads to professional certification only.

Certification to teach career and technical education in the Commonwealth’s secondary schools is issued to individuals who meet statutory requirements, demonstrate occupational/technical proficiency on a nationally standardized occupational competency examination (which includes documenting wage-earning experience), and complete 21 post-baccalaureate credits of the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s approved university program.

The Career and Technical Teacher Post-Baccalaureate Certification candidate must meet all program entrance requirements, including:

  • Hold a BA or BS degree from an accredited college or university.

  • Have a minimum 3.0 overall undergraduate GPA.

  • Have three undergraduate credits in mathematics, and six undergraduate credits in English composition, literature, or public speaking.

In addition to university requirements, certificate candidates will need to meet all PDE requirements for teacher certification.
