Project Description: Friends of White’s Woods will be working with volunteers in the White’s Woods Nature Center. Since July 2023, FWW has hosted quite a number of work sessions to manually remove barberry from White’s Woods. We have made considerable progress. But there is still work to be done.
This year, in addition to removing more barberry, we will also be planting native plant seeds and native tree seedlings. Our Spring 2026 Barberry Pulling Plan is to gather volunteers to work in seven teams. Volunteers can work together and join a team—or bring a team of 10 on your own!
We will meet in the College Lodge parking lot. FWW will direct the teams to specific locations, provide leaders who will show you how to remove the barberry and plant seeds, and provide reusable canvas bags in which to move plants to nearby piles. We will also provide work gloves.
Barberry pullers should wear long sleeves and long pants and bring water. Why do this? We need to protect our forest! If 70 people work for two hours on one day, we will make tremendous progress in protecting White’s Woods. We can also promise the satisfaction of community service and two hours in the peace and quiet of White’s Woods. Thunderstorm date is April 25, 2026
