Project Description: Into the Streets Fall 2026 Organization: Friends of White’s Woods

• When: 10:00-12:00 pm, Saturday, September 12th
  Where: Meet at the White’s Woods Nature Center, 12th St. Entrance, 600 N 12th St, Indiana, PA at 10:00 AM
• What: Remove invasive barberry plants which are limiting the development of native plants in White’s Woods Nature Center AND/OR help plant new tree seedlings! How: Volunteer will pull out the plants, including their roots, place them in nearby piles (with roots off the ground). FWW members/group leaders will demonstrate and supervise the process. Most volunteers will need to bend, pull out plants, and put them in a pile. Barberry is usually easy to pull, especially smaller plants. Some volunteers will help cut down big plants and/or plant tree seedlings.
• Why: We need to protect our forest! If 100 people work for two hours on one day, we will, once again, make tremendous progress in protecting White’s Woods. We can also promise the satisfaction of community service and two hours in the peace, quiet, and wonder of White’s Woods.
  FWW will provide: • heavy gloves • collection bags • and tools
• Volunteers should: • Wear sturdy, close-toed shoes • Wear clothing that covers arms and legs. • Bring a water bottle if it’s warm.
  Additional Notes: At noon, trade in your gloves for a home-baked cookie.

Project Description: Volunteers will carpool from the HUB circle or drive themselves to the SGA PennDOT highway at the COOP Park, and will be divided into groups to divide and conquer, picking up the litter from the stretch of roadside. All supplies are provided. Wear appropriate clothing for being outside and getting dirty (closed-toed shoes recommended). Carpooling can take place at the HUB Circle at 9:45 a.m. for those who need rides. If that accommodation is needed, please contact Madeline Metts (snkfc@iup.edu).

Location: When driving independently to the site, drive down Fulton Run Rd. and make a left at the COOP Recreational Park sign (Diamond Road) and park down the road in the open gravel lot on the left.

Project Description: Volunteers will meet at the White’s Woods 12th St. entrance and take a short hike to the SGA’s barberry patch and remove the invasive plant manually for around two hours. All supplies provided. Wear appropriate clothing for being outside and getting dirty (closed-toed shoes recommended). Project Description: Indiana Community Garden (on Google Maps, within walking distance of campus), corner of Carter Ave. and S. Sixth St. in Indiana. You can walk directly into the garden through a gate on that corner. If driving, you need to enter Mack Park through the entrance on S. Sixth St. Then park in one of the spaces directly above the garden and walk down.
