International student and American Language Institute instructor Alexandra Krasova spoke at commencement and is the recipient of the Graduate Student Outstanding Research Award, the ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â Outstanding Leader Award, the Promising Future Interdisciplinary Researcher Award, and the Teaching Associate Faculty Recognition Award.

ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â Receives Funding to Host International Fulbright Recipients for Ninth Year

ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â welcomed 21 educators from 14 countries, who will complete professional development coursework at ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â and be guest teachers in the Indiana Area School District and in the Pittsburgh Public School system, as part of the university’s selection as a host for the Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Program for International Teachers.

ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â Students Selected for Competitive International Study Awards

Shanya Coshey, an Asian studies and anthropology double major from Manor, has been selected for a Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship, and Dilan Dybus, an Asian studies major from Cresson, has been selected for a Freeman Asia Award. The scholarships will fund the students’ year-long study at Kansai Gaidai University in Hirakata, Japan.

Khadija Zakki, a student in ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â’s Geography-Geographical Information Science and Geospatial Technology master’s program originally from Guelmim, Morocco, has received a grant from the Institute of International Education designed to help international students continue their studies when a natural disaster, war, or other crisis happen in their home countries.

ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â is one of only two universities in the United States chosen to host students participating in the Secretariat of Research, Innovation, and Higher Education State of Yucatan scholarship, a short-term, intensive English language and American culture program.

The Ambassador of Mali to the United States, Sekou Berthé, will give two presentations at ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â: "West and Central Africa at the Crossroads of Global Security Challenges" and "Economic Matters and Investment Opportunities in Mali, West Africa." Both events are free and open to the public.

Students, Faculty to Conduct Second Forensic Archaeology Field School in Germany at Site of World War II Airplane Crash

For the second year, ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â’s Department of Anthropology has been selected by the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine Inc. through the Department of Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency to conduct a field study in Germany at the site of a crash of a World War II airplane.

ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â Student from Philadelphia Selected for Gilman Scholarship for Study Abroad

Sfen Kadirifu, a junior international studies major with a focus in fashion at ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â, has been selected for a 2022 Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship. The scholarship will help to fund her study at Yonsei University in South Korea for the fall 2022 semester of her senior year at ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â. She is ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â’s twenty-first Gilman scholarship recipient.

ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â Selected for American Passport Program to Encourage Study, Travel Abroad Experiences

ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â is one of 40 universities in the nation selected for the Institute of International Education American Passport Project grant. This grant funds up to 25 ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â students who are first-year enrolled students who meet financial eligibility requirements to obtain a US passport to support their study abroad journeys.

Mulvihill Receives Fulbright Award

Jessica Mulvihill ’02, D’16, director of Education Abroad and National Student Exchange in the Office of International Education at ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â has received a Fulbright Award to Japan. The Fulbright International Education Administrator Award was awarded in the spring of 2020 and, due to the pandemic, had been postponed until June 2022.
